I Started My Own Indie Record Label

• Pyramid Skeme

So long story short, I decided to create my own indie record label! I feel like this is the right move for me in terms of releasing my own music right now. As someone who is truly a right brained artist, I totally understand not really wanting to deal with the business side of things, but let's be real... this is business. A very wise man once told me something like, "When you look at the term 'music business', which word is bigger?" Ok so there ya go!

But anyway, there really is a lot to all this aside from just making music and posting it on social media. As an artist, it's totally understandable to wanna focus 100% of your brain power on creating your art. And some artists are lucky enough to get discovered just doing that and be surrounded by well-meaning benevolent people who would never take advantage of them, so they can just create and live happily ever after... But right now, I'm not one of them. And as another wise man once said, "Issa evil world we live in". So yeah, I'm not gonna be evil too but I wanna have my shit together and make sure I'm protected against the bullshit as much as possible.

And to be honest, I don't think a whole lot will change with my current creative process. At some point, when I have the funds, I defintely would like to bring on team members and work with other artists (musical and visual), to make my more complex visions come to life. But right now, I'm already writing, composing, producing, recording, engineering, mastering, doing graphic design, web development, photography, marketing, promotion, distribution... you get the idea. And chances are, if you're an indie artist, you're doing all of that yourself too! So you're basically already a record label anyway. So this is just me putting a name to all that, so I can 'kinda sorta' mentally separate that from my art creation process. I got a site up for it and some social media accounts for it, so go check all that out at StillPlayinRecords.com
