Getting Back Into Drawing and Painting

• Pyramid Skeme

So I've been getting back into drawing and painting lately. I don't have anything I wanna post yet, but I will soon. I feel kinda rusty so most of the stuff I'm doing right now is just to kinda warm back up the skills. Actually, a few years back I got a new Wacom tablet, then a little while after that, got an iPad and slapped Procreate on it. That's where I've mainly been working for now. I plan on doing some stuff in traditional media soon too but its so nice being able to experiment with color in digital. When I was a kid, I got really into using ink cause I wanted to do comic book and manga style stuff. Those were some good times, but MAN. Getting all those markers (Copics and Prismacolor are EXPENSIVE) and all those archival inks (also EXPENSIVE) and mixing colors, and cleaning up the mess and wasting paper (EXPENSIVE)... It's a lot. And with ink, you literally cannot make mistakes. Well, you can but then you either have to get creative to fix em or bust out the white out and re-do. So it's really amazing to have this like... portable drawing simulator you can use to practice what you're gonna do in the physical medium. Added bonus is you can just straight up create digital art with it too.

The Wacom is dope too, but the only downsides are you gotta have a pretty powerful computer with extra HDMI ports or Displayports and you gotta be stationary the whole time because of that. Lot's of wires too. But where it beats the iPad is you 'can' do much higher resolution work, and the pen tip sensitivity seems a bit more natural. For the iPad, I got the paper feel screen protector and a tip that kinda goes with that and its better than just the stock setup, but it still feels kinda 'hard'. That makes getting the strokes right kinda difficult because the tip can't really dig in to the surface like pencils or pen nibs do. And there's no 'give' like an actual brush has either. So yeah, the Wacom isn't perfect, but it's better in that sense.

So yeah, I love being able to play around with a bunch of colors and not have to worry about cleaning up, but there's still just something about creating physical pieces so I am gonna be doing that too. Also, I've been wanting to really get into sculpture for a long time. Maybe I'll try to carve out some time for that soon too. Anyway, will post something soon!
